Paratriathlete Sprint Race Cancellation
The Kelowna Apple Triathlon Society regretfully announces the cancellation of its Paratriathlete Sprint Race for this year. This is a new event and there were 4 such races being held across North America, with Kelowna being the last one. Groups that were planning on coming from several countries have announced that their budgets have been fully used up and cannot attend. It is expected that they will plan to include Kelowna for next year. All remaining events are proceeding as planned on August 16 & 17.
Changes for KAT for 2014
The Kelowna Apple Triathlon Society has announced that the annual Pushor Mitchell Apple Triathlon will be hosting the Kelowna PATCO Premium Cup Race (Elite Sprint race on Sunday), a Junior Elite Race (Race #4 in the National Series and the BC Provincial Championships) as well as the Paratriathlon Can-Am Series Race on Saturday.
The Olympic race is again the BC Provincial Championships. In addition, the Apple Triathlon awards three spots in each age group for each gender in the Olympic and Sprint races for the 2015 World Championships in Chicago. It is also a "qualifying Race" for anyone who wants to apply to Tri Canada to go to the World Championships.
Your results from the 2013 events are available here. We hope you had a PR!
Simon Whitfield - Olympic Gold and Silver medal winner - about our race:
"The Apple Triathlon was my first Olympic distance race back in 1992. It remains, to this day, one of my favorites: held in a wonderful city, with great people, incredible scenery and with the generous support of the city, the people of Kelowna and the incredible volunteers. The National Team along with triathletes from all across Canada can't wait to get to Kelowna, enjoy the sunshine, spend some money!!!! and go home to rave about your wonderful home in the Okanagan."
We acknowledge and
thank the BC Government for its support.
